Brothers Paulo and Donato Cillo are expanding their Italian culinary empire with the imminent launch of a second location for their beloved coffee haven, Gran Caffè.
Nestled in the vibrant Duke Street adjacent to new concept Splash Art, the venue which is set to open later this month, promises an immersive food experience for up to 30 patrons.
Gran Caffè, renowned for its more than a decade of culinary excellence in Williamson Square, has undergone a transformative journey from its origins as P&D Deli. This evolution aimed to showcase not only the finest quality ingredients but also a diverse array of traditional Italian coffees, marking a significant culinary milestone.
The new establishment will continue Gran Caffè’s tradition of serving authentic Italian coffee, complemented by freshly baked Italian pastries and sandwiches crafted on their homemade sourdough bread. Additionally, patrons can indulge in the daily delight of gelato, meticulously crafted in-house for a true taste of Italy.
Donato Cillo, hailing from Potenza in Basilicata, brings a wealth of culinary expertise to Liverpool. Having previously operated his own restaurant in Italy, he initially visited Liverpool periodically as a consultant, imparting his knowledge to the staff at Duke Street’s Il Forno restaurant. Eventually, Liverpool’s charm drew him in, inspiring the establishment of his own culinary ventures, including Brunchin, Hey Farina, and Antonietta Cakes and Gelato in the city’s Italian quarter since 2010.
Expressing their excitement about the expansion, Donato shared, “After more than a decade, it’s now the right time to expand Gran Caffè with our second site in Liverpool city centre. We’re very excited to be opening in Duke Street in the heart of the Ropewalks district, introducing authentic Italian coffee, pastries, and gelato to the other side of town.”
