It’s one of the juiciest celebrations in the British food calendar, and this year, a proud Liverpool business is taking centre stage. MCJ Casings, a family-run firm based in Speke, is leading the rally for butchers, farm shops and sausage makers across the country as UK Sausage Week returns from Monday 27 October to Sunday 2 November.
The company has been supplying high-quality natural and collagen casings to the UK meat industry for more than three decades, and is proudly flying the flag for Liverpool in the national event.
Founded and still run by the Tierney family, MCJ Casings has built a strong reputation as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of sausage casings, serving independent butchers and large-scale producers alike. Despite their national footprint, their roots remain firmly planted in Liverpool, and that local pride is driving their involvement in this year’s Sausage Week.
This year marks a major milestone for the company as it becomes an official partner of UK Sausage Week. DirectorJay Tierney said:
“This is the first time we’ve been this closely involved in UK Sausage Week and we’re really excited to see what it’s all about. The response from customers so far has been brilliant – our team has had great feedback while raising awareness of the event. We’re looking forward to meeting sausage makers, industry champions, nominees and category winners at the event – and of course, tasting some of the best sausages in the country! We don’t yet know who’s won our sponsored Cumberland Sausage category, but we’ll be sure to share the news next week.”
Local butchers will also join the celebration, with some of Liverpool’s best-loved names taking part. Bexley’s Craft Butchers, a long-standing Liverpool favourite, will be rolling out limited-edition flavours such as Hot Honey and offering special deals across their stores.
Meanwhile, Red Bank Farm Shop in Newton-le-Willows is taking a homegrown approach with a luxury Pork and Sausage Hamper giveaway, featuring sausages made with meat from their own farm.
