A much-loved Seel Street site has been given a brand-new identity. On Friday 15th August, The Crooked Crown officially opened its doors, transforming the former Peacock venue into a two-storey pub that blends tradition with modern hospitality.
Following a major refurbishment by Pub Invest Group – Liverpool’s largest independent leisure group – the venue has not only been reimagined but expanded. By acquiring the former solicitor’s office next door, the team has created a larger footprint while retaining the warmth and intimacy of a traditional “local.” An additional upstairs bar area is set to open in the coming weeks.
Designed to feel like a neighbourhood pub in the middle of town, the Crooked Crown features dark wood panelling, restored fireplaces, and rich earthy tones of green and burgundy. Staircases have been repositioned, the bar extended, and intimate corners created to give the space a cosy, lived-in feel.
Outdoor space has always been part of the site’s appeal, and the Crooked Crown has built on that reputation. Alongside its courtyard, the venue now boasts an authentic stone patio accessible directly from inside, offering bright, airy spots for alfresco drinking and dining.
While cocktails will still feature on the menu, the Crooked Crown is placing a stronger emphasis on cask ales, IPAs, and lagers with many sourced from Merseyside breweries. The food menu keeps things classic, with a playful twist: traditional pub favourites served tapas-style, designed for sharing and sampling.
Whether it’s a pint by the fire in winter or cocktails in the courtyard on a summer evening, with its blend of city-centre buzz and neighbourhood pub charm, the Crooked Crown looks set to become one of Seel Street’s standout venues, offering something for everyone.
