Two Liverpool Restaurants Honoured at National Awards Ceremony

Two local businesses were this week awarded prestigious “Golden Chopsticks Awards” for their outstanding menus and innovative drinks.

Having just celebrated their 7th birthday, WooTan Scran – based in Down The Hatch on Duke Street – took home the Best Vegetarian / Vegan Dish at the prestigious Golden Chopsticks Awards in London this week. This year marks the third win for the team, who won the Best Newcomer award in 2021 and Best Veggie Dish in 2022.

Taking to social media to celebrate their win they said:

I want to shout out everyone who has helped contribute to the continuation of this journey. I couldnt have done it without you all. The Best Golden Cocktail Award went to Chamber 36 who have two locations in the city. Taking to social media to announce their win, the team said:

The Golden Chopsticks Awards is an esteemed ceremony dedicated to honouring the vibrant tapestry of East and South East Asian cuisine throughout the UK. Each year they shine a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of restaurateurs and food enterprises to the dynamic landscape of the UK catering industry while celebrating the unsung food heroes behind it all.

Founded in 2017, the GCAs emerged from the shared vision of three individuals: Gok Wan MBE, the multifaceted TV personality, fashion icon, and author; Lucy Mitchell, the adept Managing Director of Oriental Food Specialist SeeWoo UK; and Sarah Lewis, a prominent figure in food and drink PR and communications. United by their passion for East and South East Asian cuisine and culture, these founders were struck by the absence of an event dedicated to honouring the triumphs of this culinary realm.

Following extensive research and dedication, the GCAs took shape. With the backing of ten expert judges, spearheaded by the esteemed Ken Hom CBE, the awards gained credibility and authenticity. Industry titans such as Just Eat and Lee Kum Kee recognized its potential, lending their support as key sponsors, thereby enriching the project with their wealth of experience and expertise.

In January 2018, the inaugural GCAs campaign unfolded across the UK, marked by six weeks of public voting. Thousands of UK residents cast their votes for their favourite eateries, takeaways, and street food vendors.
