New Bird Kitchen Lands in the Baltic

Liverpool’s ever-evolving Baltic District is welcoming a new culinary gem this month with the arrival of New Bird Kitchen (NBK) – a grab-and-go spot where sustainability, creativity, and community come together over seriously good food.

NBK is the brainchild of celebrity stylist Lorraine McCulloch and film and TV costume designer Jan Simpson. Longtime friends with deep roots in Liverpool’s creative industries, the duo are now channelling that same passion and flair into food, crafting a business that blends ethical sourcing, local collaboration, and social impact.

NBK’s menu celebrates quality ingredients, organic where possible, free-range, nitrate-free, and seed-oil-free alongside a drinks list that features Fairtrade Costa Rican coffee, locally sourced teas, matcha, hojicha, and kombucha. Whether you’re after a nourishing breakfast or a wholesome lunch, expect an inspiring range of fresh, thoughtful options:

  • Overnight oats, toasted sourdough, and artisan sandwiches
  • Wholesome salads, puffed quinoa bites, home-baked cookies, and cakes
  • Pre-ordered charcuterie and cheese boxes — single or sharing — packed with deli meats, cheeses, pickles, olives, fruits, chutneys, and focaccia or crackers
  • Grab-and-go breakfast boxes for busy mornings on the move

“We believe food is more than fuel; it’s about connection, creativity, and community,” says co-founder Lorraine McCulloch. “With NBK, we want to make high-quality food both accessible and impactful — supporting local suppliers and creating opportunities within Liverpool.”

Located in a container kitchen at 61 New Bird Street, right in the heart of the Baltic Triangle, NBK has been brought to life with the help of local cultural champions Jayne Casey and Eric Gooden of District, who provided the space for Lorraine and Jan’s creative vision to take flight.

NBK’s mission goes far beyond great food. The team is committed to creating local jobs, nurturing young culinary talent, and working closely with regional producers and farmers. Plans are already underway for a calendar of community events, collaborations, and workshops that will cement New Bird Kitchen as a vibrant, sustainable hub for Liverpool’s creative and food-loving communities.

New Bird Kitchen opens Tuesday to Friday, 7:30am – 2:30pm. Follow daily updates and mouthwatering menu teasers on Instagram at @newbirdkitchen.
