Back in 2022 Hollie Wilson swapped her NHS job to launch her own business Poppin’ Burgers in The Excelsior Pub on Dale Street after spotting an ad on Facebook offering a fully-fitted kitchen space to rent.
Poppin’ Burgers has since built up a customer base of loyal fans across the city from students to football fans, with Hollie overseeing every aspect of the business herself from menu development to cooking and serving.
Now Poppin’ Burgers has been awarded the prestigious title of Burger Restaurant of the Year 2023 at this year’s Northern Enterprise Awards, which celebrates businesses and enterprises hailing from the north of England who are clearly worthy of commendation and recognition.
When asked about the ‘special sauce’ is for her own business, Holly believes that the power of a good burger will unite us all.
“Burgers bring everyone together – and I’ve yet to meet someone who doesn’t love a good burger! We’ve got veggie and vegan options, as well as some of our more unique inventions including a hotter-than-hell burger which has an extra spicy homemade chilli sauce, jalapenos and hot sauce… You’ve got to be brave to try that one!”
Established in 2018 by SME News the Northern Enterprise Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of small and medium-sized enterprises from across the United Kingdom, acknowledging them and highlight them with an annual award programme.
Holly is delighted to have been chosen by the panel and is excited to continue innovating, creating and refining the Poppin’ Burgers menu.
“Well never serve a boring burger. Even our regular cheeseburger has got something which makes it a bit different – we put Frazzles on top to give it a bit of extra crunch and people really seem to love that, so for now we’ll continue cooking the burgers that our customers crave!”
