Borealis Lights Up Royal Albert Dock This March

Liverpool’s iconic Royal Albert Dock is set to host Borealis, a world-renowned light installation that recreates the mesmerizing Northern Lights. From 20th to 30th March 2025, this free ten-day event will transform the city’s waterfront into a breathtaking spectacle of light and sound.

Kicking off with the first day of spring and concluding as British Summer Time begins, Borealis marks the transition to longer, brighter days. Created by Swiss artist Dan Acher, the installation uses beams of light interacting with cloud particles to create a stunning illusion of the aurora borealis. As wind, humidity, and temperature influence the display, each viewing is unique, offering a one-of-a-kind experience every time.

Having captivated audiences in more than 40 cities worldwide – including Tokyo, Melbourne, and Paris – Borealis now arrives at Hartley Quay, providing a spectacular attraction for both locals and visitors. The immersive display will be enhanced by a specially composed atmospheric soundtrack by Guillaume Desbois, adding another layer to this stunning visual experience.

While enjoying Borealis, visitors can explore the dock’s vibrant food scene, with a range of restaurants, cafés, and bars offering everything from artisan coffee to fine dining. Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy meal at Maray, freshly baked treats from Rough Hand Made, or a drink with a view at The One O’Clock Gun, the dock has something to satisfy every craving.

For those making a night of it, on-site hotels Holiday Inn Express and Premier Inn offer convenient stays right in the heart of the action.

Whether you’re after a romantic evening, a family night out, or a cultural experience unlike any other, Borealis at Royal Albert Dock is not to be missed… Don’t forget to grab a bite to eat and make the most of Liverpool’s thriving food and drink scene while you’re there!
