The team behind coffee house and bar Petrichor in Liverpool has opened a second site in the north of the city.
Best friends Leigh Rollinson and Jack Davies also operate Petrichor in Aintree Village. The pair took to social media to announce the opening of new site Terra Preta, which will also serve as a coffee house and bar, in the former Jaxon’s micropub in Longmoor Lane.
“Just over 3 years ago we decided that we’d had enough of retail work, 15+ years between the 2 of us in retail had ground us down to the point of never wanting to speak to people. In November 2019, right before Covid started, we sat in The Prince George with a pint after one of the worst shifts we’d had and went over every other opportunity we could think of, jokingly mentioning about myself always wanting a bar and Jack wanting a Coffee shop… turns out it wasn’t just a drunken idea!
Although it’s been a tiring and testing past 3 years (and no idea how Jack hasn’t strangled me yet!), we wouldn’t change it for the world. The people we have met along the way have literally restored our faith in humanity and long may it continue!”
Terra Preta serves hot drinks and cakes in the morning and alcohol from midday. The venue is spread across two floors, although the second floor, which will be an events and meeting space, is not yet open for business.
Explaining the choice of name on social media the pair said:
“Terra Preta is an incredibly rich, dark soil that was created by the Amazonians in the Rainforest by mixing charcoal and bone into the less fertile soil. It is famous for it’s nutrient-packed composition and it’s amazing ability to rejuvenate it’s surroundings. This age-old technique, which dates back thousands of years, is catching eyes today for its potential in boosting sustainability and growth wherever it is found.”
The bar has eight draft taps offering craft and German beer, four of which will be rotated. There is also cheese and wine nights, live music and more.
