John Lennon’s #1 Biscuit

The Beatles may be back at the top of the charts with their last new single ‘Now and Then’ but only a true fan of the Fab Four would know the story behind John Lennon’s favourite biscuit…

Once described as “England’s most exclusive biscuit” the Huntley & Palmers Chocolate Oliver is the ultimate in biscuit indulgence. Made using a patented recipe from the 1930’s which includes hops and malt, each biscuit is covered with thick, rich dark chocolate and presented in a tall tin.

Such was John’s obsession with his favourite sweet treats rumour has it once famously refused to accept his fee for an appearance on BBC music show The Old Grey Whistle Test in cash, insisting instead that he be compensated for his time with Chocolate Bath Olivers.

The famous links don’t stop with The Beatles. Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was said to be a fan of the biscuits after makers Huntley and Palmers produced the spectacular cake for the Royal Wedding in 1947. Some even believe that that the original recipe for these chocolate treats originated with Jane Austen herself.

Huntley & Palmers stockists and food emporium Ceci Paolo has just stocked up on these iconic biscuits in tome for the festive season. Owner of Ceci Paolo, Patricia Harrison says:

“Chocolate Olivers are a popular staple of Christmas hampers in the UK and come in a beautiful collectable tin. As soon as we put them online they are being snapped up!”

The indulgent dark chocolate covered, slow-baked biscuits are available for £10.95 in-store and online – you can find them in the Ceci Paolo shop HERE.
