Renowned chef Dan McGeorge – the winner of the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2021 – is gearing up to launch his inaugural restaurant in Liverpool this spring.
Located at 29a Hope Street, new venue Vetch promises to be a culinary haven, redefining fine dining across two meticulously crafted floors.
Set to open in May, Dan McGeorge’s culinary vision for Vetch revolves around a meticulously curated experience, offering a 26-cover capacity for guests eager to embark on a gastronomic journey. The restaurant will feature a seasonally inspired menu, comprising a tantalizing five-course lunch and an indulgent seven-course dinner. Expectations are set high, with an innovative approach fusing modern British cuisine with captivating hints of Nordic and Asian influences.
The journey leading to the creation of Vetch is as inspiring as the menu it will offer. Dan’s path to culinary excellence diverged from the traditional trajectory, initially pursuing studies in law before realizing his true passion lay in the kitchen. Following this revelation, he honed his skills in esteemed culinary environments, including apprenticeships under the tutelage of luminaries such as Simon Rimmer and stints at acclaimed establishments like the Bath Priory and Thornton Hall Hotel.
His culinary prowess reached new heights during his tenure as head chef at Rothay Manor, where he garnered accolades including a coveted third AA rosette and his dedication to his craft was further recognized with prestigious awards, including the esteemed Acorn Award in 2020 and a coveted Michelin Plate in 2021.
However, it was his crowning achievement as the “Champion of Champions” on BBC Two’s Great British Menu that solidified Dan’s status as a culinary luminary. Now, with an impressive array of achievements under his belt, he returns to his roots in Liverpool to embark on his latest venture.
The name “Vetch” itself is imbued with significance, inspired by a wild member of the pea family commonly found adorning hedgerows, meadows, and woodland edges symbolising a return to nature, a nod to the organic essence that underpins Dan’s culinary philosophy. With Vetch he invites guests to join him on a gastronomic odyssey, where each dish is a testament to his unwavering passion for innovation and excellence.
As the anticipation builds for Vetch’s grand unveiling, Liverpool’s culinary landscape eagerly awaits the arrival of Dan McGeorge’s debut restaurant, poised to redefine fine dining in the city and beyond.
