Duke Street Market Welcomes New Trader Picar

Changes within Duke Street Food and Drink Market are few and far between. Due to the nature of the relationships forged at Duke Street Market, traders don’t rotate as often as we see elsewhere in the city with many having been resident since the market opened in 2019.

However this week will see the launch of a new trader – Picar – to Duke Street Market’s vibrant food scene.

Duke Street Market has become synonymous with exceptional service and top-notch produce. Housed within a meticulously restored 100-year-old warehouse, the market exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere, offering a distinctive communal dining experience.

The Market has developed a reputation for quality alongside its inclusive and community-driven approach, catering to patrons of all ages and dietary preferences. With family-friendly amenities including a children’s play area and a pet-friendly policy, the market ensures that everyone feels welcome.

Picar will be spearheaded by the creative minds behind renowned kitchens such as Bone & Block and Barnacle, brings a fresh twist to traditional Spanish cuisine with its small plates concept. At Picar, the ethos of putting a modern spin on classic Spanish dishes permeates every aspect of the dining experience.

Founder Harry Marquart, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating that the new kitchen at Duke Street Market would focus on what he calls ‘Spanish home cooking’ drawing inspiration from a treasure trove of authentic Spanish recipes collected by Marquart and Picar’s chefs following their recent travels across Spain. And we can expect a creative element to these dishes too.

“As part of Project Picar, our team has dedicated extensive time to delve into the world of Spain’s renowned artists and their exceptional creative methods, with a particular focus on the works of Picasso As a brand we resonate with his artistic grounding that creativity can’t be rushed, nor pinpointed to an exact imaginative trigger. Hence, we aim to constantly adapt our menu for the purpose of innovation.”

Picar’s innovative take on traditional tapas cuisine promises to delight a diverse range of diners, from discerning gourmands to those who relish the joy of sharing. Whether indulging in croquetas de jamón with aioli or savouring gambas and patatas bravas smothered in a spicy tomato sauce, patrons can expect an explosion of flavour and visual appeal.

Picar will create an experience where Spain and its rich culinary heritage seamlessly blends with the vibrant spirit of Liverpool. The ever-developing menu showcases the culinary team’s creativity and commitment to using fresh, seasonal ingredients. The open kitchens allow guests to witness the artistry of the chefs at work while enjoying their meals at large communal tables.

Picar is set to officially open its doors on October 5th, marking a significant milestone in Duke Street Market’s journey as a culinary destination.
